Roche Cobas e601 vs. e602: Same Immunoassay Engine, Two Platforms to Choose From

Roche Cobas e601 Immunology AnalyzerRoche Cobas e602 Immunology Analyzer

Labs comparing the Roche Cobas e601 and e602 often expect a big performance gap between them. There is not one. Both are electrochemiluminescence (ECL) immunoassay modules rated at up to 170 tests per hour, and both carry up to 25 reagent positions. The real decision is the platform each one plugs into, because that determines how far your line can grow.

What the Two Modules Share

Both the Cobas e601 and Cobas e602 use Roche's ECL technology for heterogeneous immunoassays, run serum, plasma, and urine samples, and use disposable assay tips for pipetting. Diamond lists both with 170 tests per hour, 25 cooled reagent positions, a closed reagent system, and STAT capability, with tested menus of about 60 assays on each.

1. Roche Cobas e601: The Immunoassay Module of the Cobas 6000

The e601 is the immunoassay module of the cobas 6000 system, which pairs it with the c501 chemistry module. The cobas 6000 core unit handles loading and unloading of up to 150 samples with a dedicated STAT port, and processes up to 600 samples per hour. Roche's configuration data lists up to two e601 modules per system, or up to 340 immunoassay tests per hour. It is a strong fit for mid-volume labs that want chemistry and immunoassay on one proven platform.

2. Roche Cobas e602: The Immunoassay Module of the Cobas 8000

The e602 belongs to the larger cobas 8000 modular series. Roche describes it as a mid-volume immunochemistry module whose core unit handles up to 1,000 samples per hour, and immunoassay-only cobas 8000 configurations of up to four e602 modules reach 680 tests per hour. Because it sits on a higher-capacity platform, it fits labs that expect their volume to grow and want room to add modules alongside high-throughput chemistry units. For more on the platform, see our guide to the Roche Cobas 8000 Core.

3. How to Choose

If you need a single immunoassay module paired with mid-volume chemistry, the e601 on a cobas 6000 is a proven, well-understood choice. If you expect to add modules over time, or you want an immunoassay unit on the same line as higher-capacity chemistry, the e602 on a cobas 8000 gives you more room to scale. Labs that need still more immunoassay speed can look at the Cobas e801, rated at up to 300 tests per hour, while smaller labs may prefer the e411, which we compare in our guide to e411 vs. e601.

Choose the Platform That Fits Your Growth

At Diamond Diagnostics, we help laboratories choose between Roche platforms based on real volume and growth plans, not just a spec sheet.

Whether you need the Roche Cobas e601 or the Roche Cobas e602, every system we supply undergoes our complete Down-To-Frame® refurbishment protocol, including full disassembly, component-level restoration, and rigorous multi-level quality control validation.
