Roche Cobas 8000 Core: Build a Modular Chemistry and Immunoassay Line That Fits Your Lab

Roche Cobas 8000 Core

Growing laboratories face an awkward choice. Buy one large analyzer sized for next year's volume and pay for capacity you do not yet use, or stack standalone analyzers that each need their own sample handling, their own operator, and their own workflow.

The Roche Cobas 8000 modular series offers a third path: one shared core unit that loads and unloads every sample, with a choice of chemistry, electrolyte, and immunoassay modules behind it.

Here are 5 reasons labs build their testing line around the Roche Cobas 8000 core.

1. One Entry Point for Every Sample

The Cobas 8000 core is the loading and unloading point for the whole line, handling up to 1,000 samples per hour. It features a dedicated STAT port for prioritizing emergency samples and bidirectional connectivity to pre-analytics, so urgent tubes and routine batches enter through the same place.

2. One to Four Analytical Modules

A Cobas 8000 configuration consists of the core unit plus one to four analytical modules, with an optional ISE module on top. Diamond lists more than 30 unique configurations, which means the line can be sized to your actual menu and volume instead of a fixed package.

3. Serious Chemistry and Electrolyte Throughput

On the chemistry side, the Cobas c701 and c702 modules each run up to 2,000 tests per hour. For electrolytes, the Cobas 8000 core ISE measures sodium, potassium, and chloride at 900 tests per hour, and the dual ISE configuration doubles that to 1,800 tests per hour.

4. Immunoassay on the Same Line

The immunochemistry module in the series is the Cobas e801, which performs up to 300 immunoassay tests per hour with 48 reagent positions. Because it connects to the same core, one sample can move between chemistry and immunoassay modules without being relabeled or carried between analyzers.

5. Low Sample Volumes and Generous Reagent Capacity

Roche lists average sample volumes of about 5.5 μL for the c 701 and c 702 modules and 19.4 μL for the e 801, with automatic dilution available. A single configuration supports up to 280 reagent channels, and continuous reagent loading during operation is available on the c 702, c 502, and e 801 modules, so technologists can restock without stopping the run.

Size Your Modular Line to Your Lab

At Diamond Diagnostics, we help laboratories choose the core and module mix that matches their test menu and daily volume.

Every Roche Cobas 8000 Core we supply undergoes our complete Down-To-Frame® refurbishment protocol, including full disassembly, component-level restoration, and rigorous multi-level quality control validation, and every unit we sell is eligible for field service coverage.
